The Venue...

The whole site, exclusively yours.

When you hire Coed Y Gaer Fawr, you and your group have exclusive use of the entire site. No members of the public wandering through, no sharing the field with another group, no unfamiliar dogs appearing at the wrong moment. Just your handlers, your dogs and your schedule.

At the centre of it are 15 acres of private training grounds — a mix of woodland, grassland and cover crop depending on the season. The ground has been used as a venue for spaniel and retriever working tests, scentwork and mantrailing.

Alongside the grounds you'll find indoor teaching facilities, toilet and shower facilities, and accommodation to suit a range of budgets. Starlink WiFi reaches the holiday lets, the barn, the caravans and parts of the training field, so theory sessions and admin don't grind to a halt.

We have two cottages, a newly converted barn that works as either a classroom or accommodation, two caravans and camping facilities.

For larger groups, there's plenty of tried-and-tested dog friendly accommodation nearby, plus a good range of shops, dog friendly pubs and restaurants for off-site socialising.

The Training Grounds

The ground has been shaped over years of running gundog, scentwork and mantrailing sessions so it gives you variety without a single drive between locations.

On the ground:

- One rough wood with cover and cleared tracks for handlers

- One open wood with a clear avenue and two height-adjustable log jumps into the wood

- Two fields with mown strips, reedy grass areas and undulation

- One round jumping pen

- One cover crop field

- One small pond with an island

- One small pond in the main field

- Full and half-height stock fencing, with barbed wire removed for jumping

The Teaching Spaces

Come in from the field without leaving the site.

Work the dogs, walk twenty yards, grab a cuppa and go straight into theory. Then head back out. No packing up, no convoy to a second venue.

- One enclosed agricultural barn with water, electricity, WiFi and seating for 14

- One open agricultural barn for sheltered training, or undercover parking

- Toilet and shower facilities next to the barn, for campers and anyone staying off-site

- Yscubor, our newly converted barn — kitchen facilities, seating and tables for teaching, plus a desk, sofabeds and a bathroom. It doubles as accommodation if you'd rather use it that way.

The Accommodation

Where your group sleeps.

Everyone stays on site. That means social evenings with the whole group, an early start without a commute, and dogs settled in one place for the duration.

Y Beudy cottage — sleeps up to 5 1 double room, 1 single room, 1 double sofa bed in the lounge, 1 shower room with toilet and sink, kitchen/diner with a separate lounge.

Penrhyllan — sleeps up to 4 1 double room, 1 double sofa bed in the lounge, 1 shower room with toilet and sink, large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner.

Yscubor — first floor open plan barn conversion, sleeps 4 Large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner, 2 double sofa beds in the lounge area, 1 downstairs shower room with toilet and sink. This space also works as your classroom or party room if you'd prefer.

Caravans and camping 1 x 2-berth touring caravan with awning. 1 x 2-berth touring caravan (better suited to staff). Ample space for additional caravans, motorhomes and tents, with hook-up for 3.

There's no extra charge for well behaved dogs staying indoors. We do ask that you bring your own bed linen if you'd like dogs to sleep on the beds.

Please find the dates you are looking for and select the number of nights to get the price. The system will then notify us of your request and you will receive a confirmation email once we have confirmed the booking. A deposit will be required at this stage and the full amount will be requested 6 weeks before your arrival.
